Less Miserables devlog is back, alright!
Oh my god, we're back again

It's been a few months since the last update, as we've all been working on other projects. But from November we are now all working on Less Miserables! Did you hear? We are making a point-and-click adventure game parody of Les Misérables!

We had our first in-person meeting for 3 months months with the whole team yesterday, and between coffee and croissants (channeling our Paris trip) we were quickly dreaming and scheming crazy new things to add to the game, and planning out the next couple of months of work! A lot of this is optimising our time and processes, but also keeping it real by trying to work out what scene girl our characters would be. Our whiteboard is fizzing with spoiler heavy fun, but I can't share that right now...

But it also means we've been working on new art, new animations, and new merch!

We made a fully playable demo of Act 1 in July, but it was all temporary art and animation. Now were are going back through with feedback from playtesting, and adding real art, and a couple of extra puzzles. We've got gorgeous final painted backgrounds from Lucy! Checkout the inn seen above, and the cozy/sinister vibe going on below!

There's now background animation layers for the rain outside, dynamic lighting for characters, and parallax effect on foreground elements to give more depth.

Elena has been adding loads of new character animations including complete walkcycles for all our main characters. Here's Inspector LaBleugh, a maniacally focused policeman who will become Claude's nemesis at the end of Act 1...

A dark dressed police inspector, with tall hat and long coat takes a serious march

We've also got updated character art for the opening cutscene, with full voice and lipsync recorded now:

A sad looking, long haired young man drawn in a cartoon style with a brown background

And Ewan has been working on a playable version of the 'Heads Off' card minigame, so we can test the gameplay loop in the digital domain, just as we've been testing down the pub.

Plus we have fun freebees for AdventureX!

We will be sponsoring the amazing AdventureX games expo in London this weekend, packed with amazing speakers, and narrative adventure games from around the world. 'Less Miserables' stickers will be in every bag, and there's badges to hand out to a lucky few!

If you can make it, see you there!

Regardless, don't forget to register for our Kickstarter, and wishlist on Steam! Our Kickstarter will be launching in the Spring, and if all goes well we'll be playing the full game by the end of 2026!

Thanks for following along, this was just a little peek this month, but new stuff is going to start coming in fast, and I'll try and do one of these monthly from now on.

Vive la Révolution!
